Custom Wood Decks in Raleigh & Wake County

Craft you can feel underfoot.

There is a warmth to real wood that composite still can't fully imitate. A custom cedar or hardwood deck, framed to last and finished with genuine joinery, is craft you can feel underfoot — and we build it to age with grace, not to fall apart.

Our approach

What’s included, and how we build it

What a 1OAK wood deck includes

We start with an engineered, code-compliant substructure — footings, framing, ledger, and flashing — because a beautiful wood deck on a poor frame is a short-lived deck. Then we build in cedar or hardwood with the details that mark real carpentry: tight, consistent board spacing, hidden or deliberate fastening, clean fascia and skirting, and railings and stairs that meet code while elevating the whole silhouette.

How we approach wood in our climate

Wood is a living material in a humid climate, so we detail for it — proper spacing for airflow and drainage, correct flashing to protect your home's connection, and species and finishes suited to Carolina sun and moisture. We are honest about the upkeep real wood requires — periodic cleaning and refinishing — and we build the deck so that maintenance is straightforward and the structure underneath outlives the finish many times over.

Common questions

Custom Wood Decks, answered

How much does a custom wood deck cost in Raleigh?
Wood deck cost depends on the species you choose, the size and height, railing and stair details, and the substructure required. We price materials at our supplier cost with no markup, so the estimate reflects the real lumber and craftsmanship rather than a hidden margin.
Wood or composite — which is right for me?
Wood offers unmatched natural warmth and a lower up-front cost but needs periodic refinishing; composite costs more initially and asks almost nothing in maintenance. We help you weigh the look you want against the upkeep you are willing to do and build either to the same structural standard.
How much maintenance does a wood deck need?
To stay protected in our humidity and sun, a wood deck should be cleaned and refinished periodically — typically every couple of years, depending on the species and exposure. We will set the right expectation for the wood you choose and build it so that upkeep is easy.
Do you build the stairs and railings to code?
Always. Railing height, baluster spacing, stair dimensions, and structural connections are all governed by the North Carolina residential code, and we build and permit to it so your deck is safe and passes inspection.
