Outdoor Fireplaces in Raleigh & Wake County

A statement in stone, and an anchor for the patio.

An outdoor fireplace is a statement and an anchor — a vertical mass of stone that gives a patio a focal point, a wind-block, and a reason to stay outside long after the sun is down and the season has turned.

Our approach

What’s included, and how we build it

What a 1OAK outdoor fireplace includes

We build outdoor fireplaces as engineered masonry structures on proper footings, with a correctly sized firebox, flue, and chimney for a wood-burning unit, or a safely installed burner system for gas. Full stone or brick veneer, a hearth, and a mantel or cap detail complete the piece, and we tie it into the patio and seating so it commands the space it anchors.

How we approach structure and season

A fireplace is heavy and it handles fire, so the footing, firebox construction, clearances, and draft all have to be right — this is where decades of masonry experience earn their keep. We confirm the requirements for chimney height and clearances, design for proper draw so smoke goes up rather than out, and position the fireplace to block prevailing wind and stretch your usable outdoor season well into autumn.

Common questions

Outdoor Fireplaces, answered

How much does an outdoor fireplace cost in Raleigh?
An outdoor fireplace is a significant masonry structure, and cost depends on its size, whether it is wood-burning or gas, and the stone or brick you choose. We charge materials at our supplier cost with no markup and show the full estimate, so you are paying for the structure and craft rather than a margin.
Fireplace or fire pit — which should I choose?
A fire pit is communal and open, with seating all the way around; a fireplace is a directional focal point that also serves as a wind-block and a dramatic architectural anchor. Many clients ultimately want both — we can design them to work together on the same patio.
Will an outdoor fireplace draw properly and not smoke us out?
When it is built with a correctly sized firebox, flue, and chimney height, yes. Proper draft is an engineering and masonry problem we solve in the design — poor draw is almost always the sign of a fireplace built without that expertise.
Does an outdoor fireplace really extend the season?
It does. The radiant heat and wind protection of a stone fireplace make spring and fall evenings comfortable and push usable outdoor time deep into the cooler months of a Wake County year.
